In addition to its modeling and animation tools, the latest version of 3ds Max also features advanced shaders (such as ambient occlusion and subsurface scattering), dynamical simulation, particle systems, radiosity, normal map creation and rendering, global illumination, an intuitive and fully-customizable user interface, its own scripting language and much more. 3ds Max is mostly used by video game developers but can also be used for pre-rendered productions such as movies, special effects and architectural presentations.
STUDIO 3D MAX WINDOWS
It has strong editing capabilities, a ubiquitous plugin architecture and a long heritage on the Microsoft Windows platform.
STUDIO 3D MAX SKIN
the only way i've been able to export it the right size is by deleting those two armatures, but then it loses all rigging And "adding bones" of the GTA IV skeleton to the skin modifier doesn't do anything. and now i'm having an issue where one of these armatures is transforming the mesh, shrinking it by 100x upon export out of max. I have to import my stuff in from blender, and i do that, and i gotta import it with the armature and everything (and somehow that ends up being TWO humongous armatures that import in, littering the viewport with white wires and i can't even see what i'm doing) as opposed to just importing the mesh that has the vertex groups. and the armature modifier, you choose that specific object and it's like, there, your thing that already has those vertex groups and rigging is now associated with that skeleton, and now it's moving.ģDS max, i have no idea what the case is here. The way blender works is that a skeleton/armature is like, an object. I have to deal with using max 2012 as a GTA IV modder and i'm just at my wits end with this whole skinning thing. Am I getting too ahead of myself, does any of this make any sense? I have quite a lot of lee way in the direction that this can go, any opinions would be great. I had an idea of building a library using solidworks/acad and then using 3ds max to do the put everything together in a layout w/ texturing and to do the 3D flythrough/animation render. We are currently using AutoCAD for our 2D work and some 3D, we just got SolidWorks and also have NavisWorks. Some moving boxes on conveyor systems, forklifts putting some pallets on a rack, maybe people picking orders etc.

We will design a warehouse layout for a customer and want some renderings and to do a 3D flythrough that showcases the system and helps secure the project. I don't think what they want to do is all that complicated, but my experience is limited.

STUDIO 3D MAX SOFTWARE
I'm considering 3ds Max but have zero experience in animation and that type of software and am unsure if it fits what we want to try and do. This is a brand new position and I am essentially helping build it from the bottom up, they haven't done a lot of real 3D work.

I have a bachelor's aerospace engineering and my experience with 3D modeling is pretty limited in SolidWorks and AutoCAD. I work for a material handling company and was recently promoted into their engineering department as a 3D design engineer. So this may be a bit of a read, but appreciate any opinions.
